Duties:  
Under the direction of the Area Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, or designate, the Fire Crew person is required to function as part of a crew in the suppression of wildland fire, property, vehicle and equipment maintenance, Park maintenance  other duties as assigned (wildlife, extension etc.).

This position will involve shift work including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 and  a minimum of 2 years experience ,which consists of at least one year of wildland fire fighting or equivalent.
  • Required to hold a valid N.S. Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent
  • Basic Wildland Fire Suppression Training
  • Whims (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and Standard First Aid - verification of training must be included with the application.
  • Must have a medical examination and have the Fitness to Test Form completed by a physician (form is available at any DNR Regional Services Field  Office)
  • Complete the Medium Level Pack Test which entails wearing a 25 pound (11.3 kg.) Vest and walking 2 miles (3.3 km) in 30 minutes.  Hiring is contingent on successful completion of the Medium Level Pack Test.

Please Note:

  • The testing is done after the interview
  • The applicant must pay for the physical exam by the physician

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Formal training in natural resource management
  • lass 3 Drivers Licence with Air Brake Endorsement

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Candidates selected for interviews may be required to submit a Driver's abstract
  • Successful completion of the Medium Level Pack Test as described above
  • Interview candidates may be required to complete a competency evaluation for wildland fire suppression

Classification Level: MOS 7

Salary Range:  $33,217 - $34,055
