The Director of Primary Care is responsible for the provision of strategic leadership, direction and guidance for the enhancement and strengthening of the Nova Scotia primary health care system by ensuring the establishment of policies and programs to support a variety of initiatives that include an emphasis on health education and promotion; prevention; rehabilitation and support; and treatment for chronic disease, illness and injury for all Nova Scotians. Specific accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • providing strategic leadership for the development of an evidence-based design of a renewed community-based health care system for Nova Scotians.
  • ensuring a coordinated and integrated approach to policy development through the collaborative engagement of external stakeholders and the public in primary health care renewal.
  • including an emphasis on equality and equity of services for the diverse populations of Nova Scotia; including the provision of oversight for initiatives directed at the Aboriginal population of Nova Scotia.
  • ensuring the effective management and/or oversight of system-wide programs (such as Telecare and Primary Healthcare Information Management) that increases access to primary health care.

Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in a related field (public administration, health administration, business administration) along with significant senior leadership experience in health care are required. An acceptable equivalent of education/experience will be considered. This position also requires a well developed visionary ability along with demonstrated successes in collaborative problem-solving and establishing effective partnerships will colleagues, stakeholders and partners. Your experience leading transitional change is demonstrated through your ability to successfully direct, coach and mentor staff. Other requirements include demonstrated abilities in budget preparation and management, along with policy development.

Classification: MCP 25

Salary Range: $68,906 - $89,578
