Position Scope:
Under the direction of the District Manager of Addiction Services, the Clinical Therapist is responsible for the delivery of services within a designated geographical area. These services include psychotherapeutic intervention with individuals, families and groups affected by addiction-related problems (primarily related to tobacco, alcohol, other drugs, and gambling). This position also integrates prevention and health promotion into clinical practice, provides input into program development, evaluation and performs some public education. Travel within the District will be required.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Nursing or other professional counseling program from a recognized institution plus 3 years experience.
- Registration/licensure (or eligibility) with a relevant, recognized Nova Scotian body such as the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers or the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various treatment theories and approaches as well as an integrated level of knowledge and skills. Effective application of the personal qualities, skills and techniques involved in the field of addiction and addiction-related programming. A good understanding of a community-based approach to service delivery. Ability to make sound decisions regarding client care and to work co-operatively with others.
- Demonstrated high degree of interpersonal effectiveness, empathy, commitment to teamwork, and strong understanding and application of ethical principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, and maintain productivity and personal health.
- Knowledge of principles of health promotion and prevention.
- May require the leadership qualities necessary to co-ordinate treatment provision in some programs as required.
- Must have demonstrated good attendance in current and past employment.
- Must have valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
