Wood Street Centre, Secure Care is a 24/7 operation serving youth. The Youth Worker Casual Roster is developed to offer casual employment on an as needed basis (mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnights and weekends).

Duties:
As a member of a interdisciplinary intervention team, the Youth Worker is responsible, on a shift rotation basis, for the day to day provision of direct psycho-educational (social and emotional learning) youth programming and services to children and youth with emotional and behavioural disorders. The successful candidate would be expected to respond in a professional and therapeutic manner to children who may act out in a physically and/or verbally abusive manner towards peers and staff. Responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of a variety of programs and services to meet identified individual needs including social, educational, recreational and medical; coordination and administration of an orientation program for new residents, families and/or guardians; contribution to the development and implementation of effective treatment plans; preparation of administrative reports; maintenance of resident files and maintenance of facility security requirements ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in a Social Science, or acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in residential programs designed for children/youth with emotional/behavioural disorders as a result of abuse and neglect. This position requires that the incumbent possess a solid understanding and knowledge of short term crisis stabilization programs, effective youth care interventions based upon recognized best practices, and insight into the motivation of children/youth in crisis situations. H/she must have effective report writing skills, verbal communication and counselling skills; the ability to maintain rapport and serve as a role model and demonstrate an approach toward the children/youth which is compatible with the program model of the facility. H/she should have the ability to work with minimal supervision, exercise attention to detail, have discretion with confidential matters and respond appropriately to crisis situations.

Classification Range: PR 4 - 8
Salary Range: $19.60 - $28.25 per hour
