Senior Team Leader – Mine Operations

Our client IOC is the largest manufacturer of iron ore pellets in Canada and its customer base covers North American, European and Asian steel producers. The Company operates a mine, concentrator and a pelletizing plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities located in Sept-Îles (Quebec). It also operates a 418 kilometer railroad that links the mine to the port. IOC has approximately 1900 employees and its major shareholder and operator is the international mining group Rio Tinto, which has activities in more than 40 countries throughout the world.

This is in an exciting period of growth for IOC which will see production increase by up to 50% over the next 5 years from the current 55MT/yr. Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Operations, you will play a critical role in coaching front line team leaders to safely maximise daily production while leading initiatives to support expansion.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide effective leadership by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and coaching front line team leaders to excel in the areas of safety, production, cost control and quality
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with the Mine Technical Services & Maintenance teams to optimize the weekly production plan and manage real time execution
• Develop standards and processes to improve team productivity and work practices
• Work with the training group to develop programs to upgrade employees’ skills and HSE awareness
• Assist in the development of annual cost & production budgets
• Contribute and actively encourage the contribution and execution of continuous improvement ideas 

Required Qualification:

• At least 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in an open pit mine. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in mining or a related engineering discipline.
