Duties:

Under the supervision of the District Bridge Engineer, the Bridge Inspector will be part of a team responsible for managing all bridges in their assigned District.  This will include bridge inventory, inspection, bridge rating, determining repair quantities, recommending repairs and training other staff.  He/she may be responsible for installing temporary bridges and for surveying bridge locations.
 
Qualifications:

Grade 12 plus a two year (2) year program in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey Technology with two to six (2-6) years experience of which one to two (1-2) will be in bridge construction and analysis or a Civil Engineering Degree with two to four (2-4) years of experience of which one to two (1-2) will be in bridge construction and analysis.  Must have an ability to interpret plans and specifications, understand and accurately describe bridge components and types of bridge deterioration.   The position demands a motivated self starter with leadership qualities, excellent communication skills and supervisory abilities who can work well within a team environment to meet rigid schedules for inspection and repairs of bridges.  He/she will be computer literate and conversant with any number of computer software packages designed for use in a surveying or engineering environment.  Training in the technical aspects of bridge construction or repair, familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, especially in regards to staging, confined spaces and fall arrest systems, and a familiarity with the Department’s policies and procedures and the geographical area would be considered assets. The incumbent will be required to work on bridges at high heights and over water.

Salary Range:
 $35,041 - $51,981
