Duties:
The Learning Disabilities Consultant will be responsible for leading the development of a new provincial strategy to provide enriched programming, within the public school system, to students with learning disabilities. The consultant will develop the strategy using empirical research and evidence on identification, assessment and programming related to teaching students who have learning disabilities. The consultant works closely with other professionals within the Department of Education and liaises with school boards, other government agencies, and community and advocacy organizations regarding the provision of enhanced supports and services for students with learning disabilities.
Qualifications:
A Masters Degree, or a Level 6 (or higher) teaching certificate, or an acceptable equivalent Teacher certificate, with a focus on programming and services to children and youth with special needs and eight years related experience. Candidates will have: demonstrated knowledge of learning disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorder and experience organizing, delivering and evaluating professional development for educators; knowledge and experience with the Nova Scotia education system, preferably in a leadership capacity; and experience working with the collaborative model of educational programming and service delivery as outlined in the Special Education Policy, Nova Scotia Department of Education. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for this position.
Classification Range: PR 20
Salary Range: $70,806.53 to $83,369.01
