This competition is designated for members of the African Canadian community.

Nova Scotia Community College is at a pivotal time in our history. NSCC is on a path to 2011 to redevelop learning spaces, and launched a new Strategic Plan in 2006. Already at the forefront of education innovation in Canada, this plan uses that foundation to deliver on our goal of being a national-calibre college.

The Opportunity:  As part of the School of Access faculty team, you will deliver program-based and elective curriculum for General Arts and Science (GEAS) Science Stream and the Adult Learning Program, including Mathematics and Physics.  You will also maintain curriculum, evaluate learner performance, and advise students on academic matters.  You will be available to instruct during periods our students are available, which may include evenings and weekends.

Your Credentials:

  • You possess a relevant university degree.
You possess a thorough understanding of andragogy and your teaching philosophy is well suited to providing a "safe" and respectful learning environment for adult learners.
You possess a minimum of five years recent teaching experience.  As well, you may have worked in a setting where you applied knowledge of Math and Physics disciplines.
You possess the organizational skills to work effectively with adult learners in an individualized system of instruction (ISI) environment.
You have experience in a team teaching environment.
You have a working knowledge of Windows XP and the complete suite of Microsoft Office applications, and a thorough knowledge of the Internet and e-mail technology.
You are familiar with the concepts of Portfolio Education.
You are innovative, with a hands-on approach, and committed to life-long learning and to community involvement.
Your desire and enthusiasm to teach students with diverse backgrounds and knowledge, along with your superb presentation, interpersonal and team building skills make you an ideal candidate.
As a creative self-starter, you have been recognized for your high energy and your commitment to excellence.

Salary range is $50,373 to $68,261.14 annually.

Cultivating Diversity:  The College values diversity in the workplace.  As this is a designated competition, applicants from the African Canadian community should self-identify in their covering letter or by completing the screening questionnaire attached to online application.

Application deadline is May 22, 2008 at 4 pm.

NSCC offers a competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package.  As a learning-centred organization, we provide opportunities for every NSCC employee to be a life-long learner.

Candidates selected for interviews will be expected to provide recent, relevant references.  The successful candidate will be expected to provide official transcripts to show proof of academic achievements.

You will then have the option of uploading your existing resume(s) and cover letter(s) in seconds or creating them on-the-spot in the "editor".  For more information on the College, please visit our website at www.nscc.ca.
