This is a bargaining unit position restricted to current civil service employees represented by Nova Scotia Government Employees Union. Duties:

The Coordinator, Geographic Information and Planning is responsible for the collection, storage, management, analysis, and appropriate distribution of physical activity, sport, and recreation related facility information through the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Work will include the management of the Nova Scotia Trail Information Project (www.trails.gov.ns.ca), providing support to community driven trail development projects, continuing the development of a province-wide recreation facility inventory, supporting inter-departmental/governmental efforts of planning for trail and recreation facility development, and development of a number of cartographic products (from a GIS) supportive of planning and promotional efforts. Beyond the scope of a technical position, the Coordinator of Geographic Information will consult with numerous community groups, non-government organizations, and volunteers to conduct needs assessments, and develop appropriate and accurate information for use in community physical activity, sport and recreation planning and promotional activities.

Qualifications:

Grade XII plus a diploma in GIS/ cartography from a recognized institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Geographic Information Systems and a high degree of proficiency with ESRI suite and cartographic design standards is required. Demonstrated experience and ability working with communities to develop GIS databases and cartographic needs/products is an asset. Demonstrated experience and ability applying GIS technology to physical activity, sport, and recreation planning is an asset. Knowledge of the Nova Scotia's community trail delivery model is an asset. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a high level of initiative, ability to work independently as well as a member of a team, set effective work priorities, keep accurate and complete records, and make sound judgments.

Salary Range: $29, 891- $45,905
