Role

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg invites applications for an Integrated Community Sustainability Coordinator to assist in the preparation and development of an ICS Plan in accordance with the Federal Gas Tax Agreement and Provincial government expectations.

The successful candidate will be required to conduct public workshops, identify goals and objectives and prioritize sustainable issues and opportunities.  The successful candidate will act in a collaborative fashion involving Municipal Council, ICSP Steering Committee, municipal staff, stakeholders, provincial departments and other non-government agencies.

Scope

The essential functions of the position are:

• Coordinate the development of a comprehensive ICSP in partnership with the steering committee and municipal staff;
• Coordinate and assist municipal departments in developing sustainable action plans incorporating the social, economic, environmental and cultural pillars of sustainability
• Coordinate and provide staff support to the sustainability Steering Committee and facilitate the work of the committee and subcommittees;
• Identify potential funding sources applicable to meet implementation objectives;

Skills

• Experience in group facilitation, communications and project management;
• Strong working knowledge and awareness of the central issues related to community sustainable development;
• Strong writing skills;
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;

Education

The successful applicant shall have a Degree from an accredited university with major emphasis on geography, public administration, planning, resource management, environmental science, economics or sociology.  Training or experience in Geographic Information Systems is an asset.

This position is a temporary term position from June 2, 2008 to March 31, 2009 with a possibility to extend for a second 1 year term.  The salary is $22.00 per hour based on a 35 hour week
