Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist

Location: Labrador City

Our client is currently recruiting a Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist position for their mining operations in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe and effective geotechnical and hydrogeological support to the Primary Ore division.

As Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing geotechnical field work, such as, inspections, pit wall cell mapping, performing orientated drilling, piezometer installations etc.
  • Analyzing and interpretation of geotechnical/hydrological data
  • Maintaining field data collection from geotechnical and hydrological measurement devices
  • Providing geotechnical awareness sessions as required
  • Preparing NL Government Annual Report and Operational Plan (Dept. of Mines submission)
  • Management of projects on time and within budget
  • Providing geotechnical input for operations planning and long range mine planning
  • Demonstrating strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrating knowledge of geotechnical and hydrogeological theory and methods

The Geotechnical Engineer / Geologist will be based out of Labrador City. This is a beautiful city of 9000 people. You may find out more about this area at http://www.labradorwest.com/. Requirements:

Education, Qualifications & Training:

  • Essential: B.Sc in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Mining Engineering
  • Desirable: M.Sc in Geotechnical Engineering or Hydrogeology

Work Experience:

  • Essential: 1 to 2 years experience in a mining technical or operations role or
  • Desirable: 2 years of open pit in a geotechnical/hydrogeological role
