Bar/Restaurant Manager

Advantage Personnel is currently looking for a permanent Bar/Restaurant Manager in the Saint John area.

The Bar Manger is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of all beverage outlets which include overseeing all beverage personnel (Bartenders, Kitchen Staff, and Bar Porters), maintaining proper staffing levels and ensuring that revenues are met and budgeted costs are maintained. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and company policies, practices, and procedures.

Specific Job Functions:

  • Manages assigned operational functions within the Bar/Restaurant. 
  • Directs smooth, efficient, cost effective operation, including labor management, supervision of all aspects of services, scheduling and inventory control.
  • Oversees daily supervision.
  • Manages and monitors fiscal budget, operations and marketing strategies to produce both short term and long term profitability.
  • Reacts to any guest complaints and takes any appropriate action.
  • Handles trouble-shooting.
  • Provides input into the research, development, evaluation and implementation of new products, services, technology and processes to ensure competitive position and in anticipation of changing guest needs within the dynamic hospitality environment.
  • Manages Human Resources responsibilities to include: creating a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect and employee satisfaction; quality hiring, training and succession planning processes that encompass the company’s diversity commitment; compliance with company policies, and legal requirements.
  • Provides management support in the oversight of an assigned shift to ensure the delivery of quality service to the guests.
  • Coordinates the requisition process and stocking of beverage outlets to maximize revenues for the division.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to all beverage employees, ensures the staff is scheduled properly. Provides recommendations to management on daily operational issues.
  • Performs other management duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Three (3) + years supervisory experience in beverage or an equivalent F&B supervisory position.
  • Experience in training and mentoring of staff.
  • An Associate’s Degree in F&B or Culinary Arts and/or related supervisor experience in F&B in a hotel/resort environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, previous scheduling experience.
  • Working knowledge of PC computer software programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).
  • A friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain calm in a very high paced and stressful environment.
  • Administrative abilities preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail while meeting targeted deadlines.
  • Ability to deal effectively with guests, management, employees and outside contacts.
  • Must possess the ability to access all areas of the facility, stretch, bend, kneel carry and lift items weighing 30 pounds without restriction.
  • Maintain the mental and physical stamina to work extended shifts and days.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both written and oral forms.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.
  • Maintain a professional, neat and well-groomed appearance.
  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
