Position Summary: 

The Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of a comprehensive Infection Control Program in accordance with the Mission Statement, Standards, Goals and Objectives of the Cumberland Health Authority. S/he acts as a resource person and focuses on infection prevention and control practice, epidemiology, surveillance, education, consultation and program evaluation. Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders such as Departmental Managers, Quality/Risk Management, Employees, Physicians, and outside agencies such as Communicable Disease, Public Health, CCHSA and DOH consultants, the Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator maintains a culture of safety for patients/residents/clients by advancing evidenced based infection prevention and control practice in all care delivery settings experiences throughout the District.

Qualifications:

  • Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS) required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing of Bachelor of Nursing degree required or willingness to obtain within 5 years.
  • Certificate of completion from a CHICA – Canada approved infection control course and/or holds a certificate in infection control or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience plus 2 years recent experience in infection control and/or willingness to obtain the course within three years required.
  • Membership in professional association(s) e.g. ICANS, CHICA required.
  • Thorough knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology, infectious diseases, and surveillance required.
  • Proven ability to multi task with competing priorities to ensure responsibilities are fulfilled on time required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in principles of Adult Education required.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Nova Scotia driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel required.
