Fisheries Innovation and Development Division, Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, St. John’s, NL

Duties: The Director of Fisheries Innovation and Development is responsible for leading and administering the department’s fisheries development and diversification initiatives.  This work focuses on: resource identification, sustainable fish harvesting, vessel/equipment design, quality enhancement, product development and processing efficiency, and industry health and safety.  Leading a team of professionals, responsibilities include budget management, as well as human resource development and management.  The successful candidate must establish and maintain effective working relationships with industry participants, government departments and agencies, educational institutions, and other industry stakeholders; including representing the departmental/provincial government on fisheries advisory committees.  Assisting in formulating and implementing policies to enhance the sustainable development of the province’s fish resources is also a requirement. 

Qualifications:  Considerable knowledge of the Newfoundland and Labrador and the international fishing and seafood industry.  The successful candidate must be able to work independently and possess initiative, as well as excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.  The above qualifications would normally have been acquired through the completion of a university degree in business or engineering; or a diploma in a field related to fish harvesting and/or seafood processing, combined with a minimum of five years experience at a senior level in fishing industry development and diversification.  Equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience may be considered.

Salary:                         $63,852 - $83,008 (HL-27)
