Duties: 

Incumbent will be responsible for enforcing the provincial Highway Traffic Act and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and regulations including but not limited to the vehicle regulations, over width and overweight policy, load security regulations, hours of service and pre-trip inspection regulations, and the transportation of dangerous goods regulations.  The work includes operating permanent and portable weigh scales (indoor and outdoors), used to check weights on all commercial traffic to ensure adherence to regulations.  Work also involves consideration and application of the licensing and equipment requirements of the Highway Traffic Act and commercial vehicle maintenance standards.  Performs vehicle Inspections, Issues permits for overweight or over dimensional loads, Issues tickets, takes court action and operates on-line computer system. Work is performed with considerable independence and initiative.  Performs related work as required. 

Qualifications: 

Experience/course work in law enforcement is an asset; graduation from high school supplemented by completion of courses in motor vehicle maintenance, courses leading to certification as a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or courses in heavy equipment vehicle repair which includes mechanical components and air brake system or any equivalent combination of experience and training.  Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act is essential.  The successful candidate must also possess strong interpersonal and written and oral communications skills together with the ability to work independently and demonstrate good judgment.  Must be free of criminal code conviction in previous five years.  Knowledge of computer systems would be an asset.   Candidates must produce a "Certificate of Conduct" from the nearest Police Detachment and also a copy of their Driver Record from the Motor Registration Division.  Candidates must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License or higher.

Salary: MS 26 ($16.93 - $18.72 per hour - based on 40 hour week)
