Duties:
The Probation Officer provides community corrections services with respect to adult and youth offenders, 12 years of age and over. Responsibilities include preparation of investigative reports for courts, court attendance, supervision of offenders serving community-based dispositions and collateral contacts with employers, schools, family and others in order to assist in the supervision process, which includes the management, administration, supervision and enforcement of an adult and youth offender Community Corrections caseload. He/She is responsible for the delivery of community-based programs for offenders such as Adult Diversion, Community Service, Fine Option, etc., and for making agency referrals as appropriate. Additional duties pertain to development/supervision of Volunteers-in-Corrections, supervision of Assistant Probation Officers, public speaking and general community correctional program development.
Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree in the Social Sciences with one year of related experience or an acceptable equivalent. An ability to display sound judgement, impartiality and decision making skills is essential as daily decisions are made which directly affect the lives of offenders, their families and the community. Sound judgement and the ability to make accurate assessments related to the preparation of investigative reports and the overall supervision of offenders in the community is required. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are also essential. The candidate should possess a strong teamwork ethic and be able to function as a team member within the office and the division and be able to cultivate a strong network of accessible community resources. The candidate should be self-directed, able to accept supervision, adhere to policy and seek direction when necessary. Previous experience in Community Corrections is preferred. The successful candidate must pass the appropriate background checks. Incumbent must be able to respond to various work site locations in the Inverness, Guysborough and Richmond county areas.
Pay Level: PR 6 - 13
Salary Range: $38,863.80 - $62,732.58
