Our C/L Underwriting Department is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join their dynamic team as an Underwriting Assistant.

Summary
Rates, issues and underwrites commercial lines business to support regional quality, service, and growth objectives.  Requests and develops underwriting information and reviews reports.  Assists in handling and resolving broker and customer service issues.  Works with a low to moderate degree of autonomy.

Job Duties

  • Rates, issues and underwrites commercial lines policies and other documents to support regional quality, service, and growth objectives. Requests and develops underwriting information from brokers and other external sources and reviews reports to ensure quality risk selection.
  • Services an assigned field of brokers in conjunction with Commercial Lines Underwriter(s) to develop relationships in order to achieve planned objectives.
  • Responds to inquiries and assists in the resolution of customer and broker service issues to meet regional and corporate service objectives. 
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to ensure the efficient operation of the department and regional centre. 

Skill and Experience Required

Education:  
Minimum - High School Diploma and successful completion of one C.I.P. course OR successful completion of a post-secondary education;

Experience:  
Minimum - One (1) to two (2) years of previous office experience OR an equivalent combination of education and directly related work experience.  Previous insurance industry specific experience would be an asset.

Technical Skills: 
Knowledge of commercial lines forms, and rating manuals; understanding of underwriting processes, procedures and guidelines; ability to quickly and accurately perform basic mathematical functions; knowledge of policy processing systems; understanding of broker/insurance company relationships. Keyboarding skills & knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.  

Performance Skills: 
Decision making, relations with others, ability to learn.
