This position is currently located in our Atlantic Regional Centre, Downtown Halifax.

The P/L Underwriting Department is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join their dynamic team as a Personal Lines Underwriter.

Summary:

The successful candidate will look after the profitable performance of an assigned group of brokers by managing the overall quality of submissions and underwriting decisions, and by assessing new business applications, policy changes, policies with claims and other miscellaneous issues, in order to achieve corporate profit objectives.  The successful candidate will receive general direction with regards to duties, works independently within authorities, and under supervision for duties outside authority.

Job Duties:

• Administrates an underwriting field by assessing new business, policy changes, claims, other miscellaneous correspondence within company standards, while maintaining service standards, in order to maximize profitability.
• Develops and manages a relationship with an assigned group of brokers to develop a lasting and profitable relationship.  Works with brokers to implement recommended action plans to improve/maintain risk selection, profitability and to take advantage of opportunities.
• Manages the performance of an assigned group of brokers by managing the quality of submissions in order to develop a lasting and profitable relationship. 
• Trains brokers on relevant underwriting matters to help improve their underwriting abilities.
• Collects and shares relevant marketing information required to help manage the performance of assigned brokers.
• Develops and manages internal relationships to improve cross functional communications.
• Other duties as required to achieve corporate objectives.

Skill and Experience Required:

Education: Minimum - Three year university degree or an Insurance Institute designation.  (A college diploma with an insurance concentration is an acceptable alternative to the university degree).

Experience: Minimum - Previous underwriting experience an asset.

Technical Skills: Computer literate (i.e., office system packages, including word processing & spreadsheets).

Performance Skills: Decision making, analytical, problem solving.
