The Claims Unit in our Halifax office is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join their dynamic team as an outside Senior Claims Adjuster

Summary:

The incumbent will investigate and manage, according to established standards, complex claims files and tasks which require on-site inspections and personal visits. The incumbent will be expected to provide high quality customer service and act decisively with a high degree of autonomy and within established authority.
   
Job Duties:

  • Provides timely, professional and efficient service to all customers to meet corporate service objectives.
  • Assembles information on new, transferred and ongoing claims of moderate to high complexity for the purposes of evaluating the scope of the loss, appropriate coverage and indemnification to effectively manage loss and expense. 
  • Completes task assignments on various claims to provide support and assistance to inside staff to assist in the assessment of coverage, liability and quantum of losses. 
  • Applies policy, legislation and company guidelines to all claims of moderate to high complexity to manage loss costs and customer relations.  
  • Analyzes information gathered on coverage, liability and quantum, and audits claims of moderate to high complexity to verify authenticity and appropriateness. 
  • Processes and documents claims payments according to company guidelines, obtaining authority from the appropriate Claims Specialist or Unit Manager, to maximize loss costs management.

Skill And Experience Required:

  • Education: Minimum — (A) High school diploma (enrollment in CIP program an asset), (B) Three year degree/diploma.
  • Experience: Minimum — Three years of claims handling experience, preferably as an outside adjuster or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Technical Skills: Superior time management skills. Knowledge of word processing and Windows based software products. Basic math, reading and writing skills. Ability to deal with people and communicate effectively by telephone and in person. Technical skills related to relevant type of claims. The ability to travel independently throughout the field area on a daily basis, often on short notice.
  • Performance Skills: Service oriented, problem solving, spoken and written communication.
