Duties:
Under general supervision, the technician delivers departmental programs concerning the development, maintenance, protection and public education of forestry, wildlife and recreation resources which may involve Crown Land management, Private Land management, monitoring for Forest Sustainability Regulations compliance, forest fire prevention and suppression, wildlife studies, biological surveys, insects and diseases surveys, parks operations, land administration, public liaison and education, and other activities as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Requires successful completion of a department recognized two-year Natural Resources Technical Diploma Program . (Applicant must submit a copy of course transcript as part of application) Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the principles and practices of forest resource management, forest fire prevention measures, forest fire suppression, tree and wildlife management. Applicants must possess competent verbal and written communication skills, sound judgement and proven ability to provide exceptional service to clients as well as respond appropriately to crisis situations. Applicants must be computer literate. A valid NS driver's license (minimum Class 5) and access to a motor vehicle are essential. The successful candidate will be required to operate or travel in department vehicles, including off-road vehicles, boats and equipment, work in remote areas and travel long distances on foot over rough terrain.
Classification Range: TE 13 - 22
Salary Range: $31,630 - $51,981
