After a comprehensive, external review of its public health system, the Province of Nova Scotia is now acting on the findings and recommendations of the report. As Medical Officer of Health (MOH), you will join an interdisciplinary team that will lead the renewal of the public health system to promote and protect the health of all Nova Scotians.
At the local level you are a dedicated expert advisor on the broad range of public health functions with primary responsibility for health protection as outlined in the Health Protection Act. In this capacity you will provide expert assistance in developing, applying, and evaluating the local public health action plan. In building relationships in the community, engaging with municipalities and school and community health boards, you will have the opportunity to lead and champion the implementation of public health and population health initiatives at the district level--to really make a difference for Nova Scotians.
At the provincial level, you are part of the Public Health Leadership team playing a lead role in planning and policy in Nova Scotia's renewed public health system.

Successful candidates for the position of the Medical Officer of Health should be licensable by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia and have a fellowship in Community Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or other acceptable specialty qualifications). Post-graduate training in public health with public health experience may also be considered. Successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for joint appointments with Dalhousie and other Universities in Nova Scotia involved in the public health field.

Salary Range: $177,559 - $205,840
