Facility: Soldiers Memorial Hospital
Program: Nursing - Alternate Level of Care
Type: Casuals

Position Scope:  Accountable to the Nurse Manager of Medical, Transitional Care and Alternate Level of Care Units to provide safe, competent patient care in accordance with the Mission, Standards, Policies and Procedures of AVDHA. The Continuing Care Assistant (CCA), under the direction and supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and/or Registered Nurse (RN), will perform direct and indirect patient care tasks and support functions.  Those assigned tasks and functions support the role of the professional staff and the efficient operation of the unit, and are delivered in a safe manner.  Assigned roles and responsibilities will be within the care delivery model and based on the needs of the patient population, the health care system, and the RN's and LPN's with whom the CCA works.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) in N.S. (provide copy of certification with resume)
  • Current CPR certification (within the past year)
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development
  • Demonstrated competencies in working with a team approach to care, with the philosophy of maximizing patients self care abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize
  • Demonstrated good attendance in current and past employment.
  • Exemplary work history as demonstrated in current and past employment.
  • Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position.
  • Available to work all shifts

Preferred:

  • Education/training in geriatric care, dementia care and dealing with patients with challenging behaviours.

As per current CUPE collective agreement.
Position to commence as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
