Responsibilities:
This position is for Cardiovascular Health Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the Data Quality Coordinator, the Health Record Abstractor is responsible for the accurate identification, interpretation and recording of data from inpatient charts with appropriate cardiovascular diagnoses. The incumbent is also responsible for reviewing charts to rule out those that do not meet criteria for inclusion in the Improving Cardiovascular Outcomes in Nova Scotia (ICONS) database. Reviewing and interpreting clinical documentation, completion of abstracting fields using criteria and guidelines outlined in the Manual of Abstracting Procedures and Data Definitions. The Health Record Abstractor ensures the integrity and accuracy of the data collected and maintains confidentiality and security of patient information. Other duties include maintenance of control logbooks to ensure accurate reporting of monthly abstraction statistics, identification and retrieval of missing reports from inpatient charts required for complete data collection. The Health Records Abstractor also works with the Data Entry Coordinator to ensure corrections are completed in a timely manner as well as performing other duties as required.

Qualifications:
* Graduation from an approved Health Record Technology/Administration program or educational equivalent in a health related field
* Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and pharmacological management related to the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
* Accuracy and attention to detail.
* Experience abstracting clinical information in a general acute-care setting preferred
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Highly motivated
* Excellent organizational skills
* Computer literate

Hours of Work:
* Long Assignment Full-Time Position; 70 hrs bi-weekly
* Beginning June 09, 2008 until June 08, 2009

Salary: Health Records Abstractor:
$21.0622 - $22.6346
