The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of volunteers, whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. In partnership with the National Cancer Institute of Canada, we achieve our mission through research, education, support for people living with cancer and advocacy for healthy public policy.
The New Brunswick Division of the Canadian Cancer Society is seeking Speakers Bureau Volunteers.
The Canadian Cancer Society's Speaker's Bureau offers public education presentations delivered by trained volunteers from the community.
We are seeking individuals who would like to:
- Contribute to activities that promote the prevention of cancer
- Building healthy public policy
- Creating supportive environments
- Strengthening community action
- Developing personal skills
Time commitment
- Hours variable – 1 to 10 hours/month depending on community demand and volunteer energy
Responsibilities
- Respond to community requests for presentations around cancer risk identification
- Identify groups or organizations who may be interested in receiving a public presentation
- Report on any presentations provided in the community with the evaluation tools supplied by the Society
- Provide information and tools to community members related to the cancer prevention priorities of the Society
- Promote Society programs and services including Cancer Information Services and Smokers' Helpline
Requirements and qualifications
- Must successfully complete training
- Previous or current experience in public speaking desired but not necessary
