Position:      Administrator, Financial Development

Salary:        $9.25/hour, Plus Individual YMCA Plus Membership

Placement: As soon as possible

Situation:

The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth provides programs and services to the citizens of Halifax Regional Municipality encompassing the cities of Halifax, Dartmouth and surrounding counties. The Association has 155 years of rich tradition in our region.  In 2008, the Association provides a comprehensive range of programs and services encompassing Health Promotion, Wellness and Active Living, Youth Employment Training, Child Care, Residential and Day Camping, Immigrant Services, Student Housing, Leadership Development and International Partnerships. The Association employs over 400 Full Time and Part Time staff and the community benefits from the annual contribution of over 650 YMCA volunteers. Over 50,000 citizens of all ages and backgrounds benefit from involvement with The YMCA on an annual basis.

The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth has developed The YMCA Shared Vision 2010 for the Association, which outlines focused growth in building a healthy community. As The YMCA programs and services grow to meet the community's expanding need, so do the support requirements for The YMCA Association Services. The YMCA is seeking an Administrator to effectively support the Financial Development Office.

Nature and Scope:

Reporting to: Leslie Tinkham, VP, Financial Development & Communications.

The Administrator will model service excellence in providing administrative and clerical support to the Financial Development Office.

This is a flexible 25 hours/week, typically within the 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. workday.

Responsibilities:

  • Confidential and accurate handling of all responsibilities
  • Data entry and processing of all donations
  • Issuing of charitable receipts and production of thank you letters
  • Management of pledge payment contributions
  • Accurate donor record keeping and report preparation using GiftWorks software
  • Reconciliation reports of receipts and donation deposits for quarterly, year end and audit
  • Assisting staff and donors with queries and issues
  • Monitoring for consistent implementation of Association procedures and practices
  • Assisting with mail merges and meeting preparations
  • Assistance in the preparation and management of the annual YMCA Strong Kids Campaign
  • Providing support as required to the Financial Development Office

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in a related field and/or equivalent administrative/accounting training/experience including database management.
  • Related administrative workplace experience.
  • High level of proficiency in Office 2000 (Word, Excel and MS Outlook)
  • Experience with GiftWorks software or other fund development software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Process- and detail-orientation
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Have a high degree of initiative and adaptability
  • Capability of handling multiple tasks effectively
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Cultural sensitivity
