Position Summary:
Reporting to the Charge Technologist, the incumbent performs routine laboratory BGS and/or TD and/or NAT testing. The technologist is required to follow relevant SOPs and COPs, maintain a clean and safe work environment and perform other laboratory duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receives, inspects, stores, prepares, and tests reagents, controls, and reagent kits.
- Performs test procedures and records results.
- Ensures all required documentation is accurate and complete.
- Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and verification of testing equipment.
- Reviews testing documents.
- Performs routine BGS and/or TD and/or NAT testing related quality control/assurance activities.
- Prepares all donor testing related non-conformance reports.
- Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
- Maintains technical competency and promotes continuous learning.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of six (6) months previous laboratory experience in a related discipline preferred
- Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Certified general registered technologist with Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science and licensed practising member of Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists
- Experience with Transfusion Medicine / Red Cell Serology an asset
- Excellent communication skills

- Detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment
- Superior problem solving and decision making skills
- Ability to operate related equipment including excellent MS Office skills
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job
