Position: Laboratory Assistant – Temporary Part Time
(Approximately 12 weeks)
Location: Saint John, New Brunswick - Production

Position Summary: Working under the direction of the NB Site Manager, Production, the successful incumbent will be responsible for blood component production, data entry, general lab duties, and may be trained for Product Distribution. Assigned duties will be performed in accordance with the objectives, guidelines and requirements of Canadian Blood Services. Scheduled hours of work will vary and are based on a Monday to Sunday scheduling period.
Responsibilities:
- Receive whole blood and Apheresis donations from Centre/mobile collection sites and prepare for component production, including documentation, labelling, data entry, centrifuging and storage.
- Perform general lab duties for the department including cleaning/disinfecting equipment and keeping component laboratory in order.
- Perform departmental support functions including replenishing supplies, checking to ensure equipment are operating as required and within prescribed parameters.
- Perform end labelling duties.
- Perform data entry functions as required.
- Perform filing of documents.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include successful completion of Grade 12. Post secondary education in sciences would be desirable. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The ability to work within a highly structured framework in a regulatory environment is essential. Candidates must have good handwriting and documentation skills as well as familiarization with work in a computerized environment. Candidates must have excellent customer service skills and abilities. Bilingualism would be considered an asset.
