Duties:
Reporting to the Director of Healthy Development, the Clerk III will work in a highly collaborative environment with a creative and passionate team as part of the Department of Health Promotion and Protection. The Clerk III’s principal role is to serve as the Department’s SYSPRO Administrator, responsible for the administration, maintenance, training, and continuing development of SYSPRO, an online ordering system and database for the Department and the District Health Authorities. Using SYSPRO as his or her primary tool, the Clerk will also play a vital role as part of the Health Education Team, especially in regards to the Health Education resources.

With minimal supervision and working alongside the Resource Specialist, this position will coordinate the entire Health Education print production process; from preparing and initiating the annual order process, to working as a liaison between the Department and the District Health Authorities, as well as a liaison between the Department and Communications Nova Scotia, to preparing all paperwork and materials needed to access writers, editors, translators, and designers, and ensuring that all materials are printed, distributed and received on time and on budget. The Clerk III will also be responsible with assisting in the development and maintenance of SYSPRO (or other databases that may be required), as well as provide training (and develop training materials) for the Department and for district public health staff in relation to the online ordering system. Equally important, the Clerk III will provide general administrative support to staff in the Health Education section, including filing, scheduling meetings, phone support, etc., and act as back up administrative support across the Department.

Qualifications:
Grade XI plus four years related experience including advanced training in project management and databases; an acceptable equivalent of education and experience may be considered. Successful completion of post-secondary education is preferred. Must have exceptional computer skills, especially as it relates to database software. Superior data entry, desktop publishing and word processing skills with attention to detail are required. Working knowledge of internet, web based and database applications required, as well as directly related experience in preparing documents using applications such as Windows, Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are necessary. Knowledge of Adobe, digital graphics and image setting processes, equipment and related software considered an asset. Knowledge of government procurement processes considered an asset. Solid time management skills and ability to multi task are essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).  Must be flexible, extremely well organized, have excellent problem solving skills, and be a team player. Requires a proven ability to communicate effectively to maintain the workflow of internal and external service providers. Must be able to assess needs and to coordinate projects to ensure quality, schedules and budgets are met.

Classification Range:  CL 18

 Salary Range:            $34,985- $39,144

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
