Executive Director
Our client, the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia (PANS), is seeking an experienced, senior-level professional to lead the development and growth of the organization as its Executive Director.
Based in Halifax, you will report to a ten person Board of Directors and assume overall responsibility for providing leadership and direction to this 1,100 member organization. Operationally, you will manage public affairs, member services, advocacy, communications, government relations, finances, human resources, and administration. Managing a staff of two people, you will provide proper direction to them to ensure performance standards are met and guide them as they provide support to members, the Board of Directors, and to various Board committees.
As Executive Director, you will also liaise with the provincial government to ensure open, communicative relationships exist and that regulators understand the interests of all members throughout the province. You will also play a vital role nationally as you work collaboratively with other provincial associations and the national bodies on strategic matters.
As the ideal candidate, you have a solid understanding of the not-for-profit sector and in particular, association management. Having worked with volunteer Boards, you have a thorough grasp of governance issues and have also mastered a communication and interpersonal style that promotes cooperation, even in the face of diverse, sometimes conflicting, interests. You have well-honed skills in public affairs, finance, administration, human resources, government relations, member services and program management. Ideally, you hold a professional designation or Masters’ level degree.
A senior level manager, you possess excellent communication and negotiation skills and are known for your ability to motivate people to meet sometimes difficult and challenging objectives. Your collaborative and consultative approach to conducting business is very much respected. Knowledge of health care is an asset in this role although it is not a requirement.
