IT Technician

Magna Powertrain a division of Magna International, a leading global automotive components manufacturer has an immediate opening for an IT Technician to join our team at our Precision Finished Components facility in North Sydney, Nova Scotia:

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • Function within a self-directed work team
  • Maintain TS 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements
  • Provide technical support for: intranet applications, desktop applications, etc.
  • Co-ordinate company projects to ensure standards and proper documentation
  • Ensure back-ups are performed according to dept. procedures
  • Arrange for training on existing software applications, as required by users
  • Troubleshoot and maintain PC's
  • Ensure software legality
  • Advise PFC management with regard to current technology advances and trends
  • Provide technical support from off-site and during off-hours as required
  • For internal customers, interpret IT technology & jargon into easily understood language
  • Source & procure hardware and software in accordance with needs, expenditure approvals & division & corporate standards
  • Give input to preparation of IT capital budget
  • Prepare Capital spending requests and justifications for common division hardware & software (i.e. servers, communication equipment, etc.)
  • Monitor budget vs. actual IT capital spending

Qualifications Necessary to Do the Job

  • Must have minimum 2 yrs Post secondary education in the field of information technology
  • OR 2 years experience in IT related work, with relevant IT courses
  • Must have working knowledge of and experience in: server operating systems, desktop operating systems, and AS 400
  • Knowledge and experience of HMTL an asset
  • Working knowledge of Visual Basic an asset
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain PC's, configure and maintain network servers
  • Knowledge of hubs, routers, switches, and back-up systems
  • Knowledge of EDI, SQL, and bar coding, equipment
  • Effective communication skills, and high level of energy and motivation
  • Ability to make own decisions within the parameters of the PFC Information Technology Plan, and within guidelines established by department manager
  • Must demonstrate a customer service oriented approach
  • Maintain work area in a clean & safe condition and adhere to all applicable Health & Safety policies
