Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Inpatient Unit

Working within full scope of practice, the Registered Nurse will be responsible to provide skilled nursing care to the psychiatry inpatient unit in accordance with the standards of the Nursing Program and Mission, Vision and Values of the organization. This position will primarily focus on purposeful use of self and knowledge of human behaviour in application of the nursing process, addressing human responses to actual or potential health problems of individuals, families and other groups.

Terms of Employment as per current N.S.N.U Collective Agreement and AVH Policies, Procedures and Practices.

Qualifications: 

  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Motivated with a strong customer service orientation building solid health care client/partner relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information, problem solve and utilize good judgment in decision making 
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement initiatives and evidence based practice 
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices and organizational health
  • Demonstrated accountability
  • Demonstrated attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, and maintain productivity and personal health
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 
  • Demonstrated good attendance in current and past employment
  • Exemplary work history as demonstrated in current and past employment
  • Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position
  • Shift work will be required

Preferred (Considered an Asset):

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
  • Recent relevant experience in mental health nursing
  • Post graduate diploma in mental health nursing
