Electrical Engineer

Irving Shipbuilding Inc's primary office is located at the Halifax Shipyard with other locations in the Maritime Provinces.  The company has been carrying out ship repair, building quality ships and fabricated modules for over 100 yrs.  The company's commitment to Health, Safety and care for its employees and the environment is an integral part of our business.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Engineering of power distribution systems and equipment
• Engineering of control and instrumentation systems and equipment
• Engineering of navigation and communications systems and equipment
• Review and comment on design agent drawings as they pertain to electrical power generation, distribution, and control systems
• Prepare electrical equipment specifications
• Research and liaise with electrical equipment vendors in order to provide Vendor Furnished Information as required by the design agent
• Perform technical evaluation of proposed electrical equipment
• Participate in factory acceptance tests for electrical equipment.

Experience & Education Requirements – Knowledge & Skills:

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent 
• Minimum 10 years experience in marine electrical engineering 
• Shipyard experience a plus 
• Experience with electrical requirements for underwater hull equipment, auxiliary and ancillary equipment, cathodic equipment, and UPS
• Familiar with Classification Society Rules
• Familiar with Flag Requirements
• Familiar with Class Certificates and/or Type Approvals
