PC Support Technician

Nature and Scope of Position:

The PC Support Technician will be the first line of support for end users and will be responsible to provide software and hardware support for local and remote users in person and over the telephone. This includes maintaining PC equipment to ensure optimal performance, journaling support calls and submitting service requests to developers regarding program issues. Assist with general user account and access rights as well as maintaining server daily backups.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding desktop software problems (i.e., Navixa, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Open Office, Lotus Notes, etc…)
  • Create user accounts; adjust access rights and privileges as needed.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues to isolate problems & submit service requests.
  • Printer support/repair & placing service calls for photocopiers.
  • Deployment of new systems, software & telephone equipment.
  • Provide maintenance and repair for PC's including the installation of motherboards, CPUs, I/O and NIC cards, hard disks, ribbon cables, memory, CD-ROMs, etc.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure efficient operation of the company's desktop computing environment and core business application.
  • Perform daily backup procedures as necessary.
  • Maintain door security system including daily review of footage.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Computer Science or Computer Engineering Technology.
  • Certifications in Microsoft Windows considered an asset.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of PC hardware, including desktop/notebook workstations, laser printers, wireless access points, & bar code readers.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards, including Windows NT Domains in a WAN environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Self motivated and directed.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of software packages including: Lotus Notes, IBM Client Access and advanced proficiency in office suite programs.

Working Environment:

An individual in this capacity must be aware that the position will involve:

  • Extended periods of time will be spent at a computer and on the phone.
  • Must be capable of lifting computer systems and monitors for system deployment.
  • Must be willing to walk to various areas throughout the facility throughout the day.
  • Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) on a regular basis, when working in areas where such a requirement exists.
  • Overtime will be required from time to time.
