Job Description:


As Chief Engineer you will be the functional lead for our boiler and refrigeration and water treatment operations and the employees who support its optimal performance. Your ability to multi-task in an ever changing work environment will be highly utilized. You will collaborate with the Plant Management Team and other functional groups such as Engineering and Technical Services. Additionally, you will assess equipment performance and develop a predictive and proactive plan as well as identify and anticipate major repairs, replacements and capital projects to ensure improved and continuous operations.
Other Responsibilities:
• Your overall accountability will be the operation and maintenance of a 2nd Class 160,000 lbs/hr boilerhouse, a process and cold storage ammonia refrigeration system, and a water treatment plant.
• You will be a leader; within a team environment and provide open and honest communication across all levels and adopt High Performance Team principles
• You will actively participate in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen Events
• Along with the Plant Engineer and Maintenance Team, you will provide support and direction to tradespeople and contractors that maintain the reliability of boiler and refrigeration and water treatment services
• With support from other leaders, you will ensure a safe and healthy working environment. This requires managing long-term planning and day-to-day issues.
• Your administrative responsibilities will include Budget control
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• You are a self-motivated individual with a 2nd Class Power Engineers Certificate and 5 to 10 years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications
• You possess a solid understanding of proactive maintenance systems as well as continuous improvement strategies included in the lean manufacturing model
• You have experience with ammonia refrigeration systems and water treatment operations.
• Your education and experience has equipped you with a good understanding of mechanical, structural, civil, piping, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) disciplines
• Your strengths include: an understanding of energy conservation methods / systems; strong verbal and written communication skills; and a passion for safe work environments
• You have solid computing skills (MS Office) Results-oriented, team player with excellent supervisory and communication skills, as well as strong problem solving abilities
• You are willing and able to respond effectively to the needs of a 24/7 operation
• You take pride in contributing to the effectiveness of the plant, and work well in a team environment
