The Department of Justice is currently recruiting. The following information refers:

Chief Adult Probation Officer (Temporary)

 Corrections and Community Services, St John's, NL

Duties: Reporting to the Director of Corrections and Community Services, the incumbent is accountable for the development, implementation, and management of cost-effective community correctional programming to adult offenders.  The individual administers community correctional programs and services throughout the province. S/he develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive policies and programs for community correctional services at the provincial level and is accountable for the human resource management of the Community Corrections Branch.  The individual is involved in budget preparation, monitor and expenditure control, and in addition, negotiates and administers contracts with outside agencies such as the John Howard Society.  S/he coordinates staff development based on identified needs, develops resource materials and information brochures, and responds to inquiries from the media.  The incumbent also liaises with the other provincial jurisdictions and the federal government, while performing other related duties as required. 

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have considerable knowledge and experience in: the corrections field; policy and program development; and computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office. The candidate must be skilled in communication, service delivery, decision making, relationship building, negotiation, self management and resource management. S/he must be a team motivator and demonstrate strong leadership, ethics and professionalism. These qualifications would normally be acquired through graduation from an accredited University with a degree in the social sciences, social work, or criminology, preferably at the Masters level, combined with related professional experience.  Equivalencies may be considered. 

Salary:             $60,225 – $78,292 (HL-24)
