The Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nation Chiefs (www.apcfnc.ca), in partnership with Ulnooweg Development Group (www.ulnooweg.ca), is undertaking a new Commercial Fisheries Initiative in support of First Nation communities in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and the Gaspe region of Quebec.
As part of this important capacity building project, they are assembling a team of business professionals and advisors who will work hand-in-hand with member communities to provide advice and assistance in the areas of business governance, management, and development, related specifically to the fisheries. The team of advisors will conduct joint assessments of each community's fisheries including management capacities, structures, practices, challenges, needs and staffing, and will also work with the community fisheries management leaders and staff to develop and update existing fisheries business governance, management and training plans. The team will assist with the development and implementation of business plans, and assist and monitor outcomes and results. On their behalf, we are seeking a Business/Finance Consultant, with a strong blend of accounting and finance experience in the fishing industry, to play a key role on this team.
As the ideal candidate, you have extensive experience in the fishing industry and a broad understanding of the issues and challenges facing that sector. A professional accounting designation is not required but formal education or training in accounting is preferred. Knowledge of state-of-the-art performance standards and rural community development best practices are beneficial for this role. In addition, your well-honed interpersonal and communication skills provide you with the sensitivity and relationship building skills required to work collaboratively at all times.
If you would like to pursue this exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the growth of First Nation communities, please forward your cover letter and resume, in a single MS Word document, by email to apply@geraldwalsh.com (quoting project number 1414W-CB in the subject line), or by mail to Gerald Walsh Associates Inc., 2020 -1801 Hollis Street, Halifax, NS B3J 3N4.
