The Barrett Xplore Inc's Technology Department is looking for a Satellite Technology Strategist. This position could be located in either of the following offices - Woodstock or Fredericton, NB or Brampton, Ont. The Satellite Technology Strategist is responsible for performing strategic assessments of internal and external satellite environment to develop a satellite strategy for Barrett Xplore Inc and, where appropriate, other functional departments. You will work across multiple functions to translate the strategy into a roadmap of specific, integrated initiatives across all product lines. The Satellite Technology Strategist will be responsible for communicating strategy and a strategic roadmap to stakeholders across the organization, partnering with departments and internal/external customers to understand evolving needs, and adjusting strategy as necessary. When appropriate, this role will lead organizational initiatives by managing on-site / virtual teams to successfully implement strategic initiatives.
The Satellite Technology Strategist will be an expert in the field of satellite technology. With their extensive technology background, he/she will have the skill-set and experience to be able to define operational excellence in a fluctuating and fast paced environment. This individual is recognized within their current organization as a satellite expert who has repeatedly been at the forefront of implementing, operating and supporting leading-edge satellite technologies. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical and leadership skills. A university degree in Computer Science or Engineering and a minimum of 8 years work experience in the Satellite Operations Field.
The following qualifications and skill sets are required:
- Strong problem solving, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and interact with groups throughout the organization
- Capable of working on a variety of projects and coordinating multiple priorities
- Proven leadership and strategic analysis in satellite related industries
- Ability to manage costs while meeting corporate growth requirements
- Excellent analytical skills, know what to measure and adept at interpreting the information
- Up to date knowledge of the latest satellite technologies, standards and networking/industry trends
- Clear and solid understanding of the fundamental issues of satellite network principles, RF, systems engineering approach, media access control, congestion control, transport layer protocols, mitigating the link impairments and security for both IP and ATM over satellite
- Group system and satellite integration and testing experience is a plus
- Prior experience with traffic management/engineering, network traffic and policy management of a fair access policy, load beam and carrier management, core routers, performance enhancing proxies, SMTS, HTTP, TFTP, TCP, UDP and other transport protocols, QoS and performance issues, DAMA, end to end QoS Model, MAC protocols, routing, QoS technologies, MPLS, QoS-Cross layer interaction, advance transport protocols and satellite IP networking
- Experience and knowledge of complex, distributed ground systems, including satellite ground station equipment and procedures, Network (LAN/WAN) architecture, multicast/unicast protocols and equipment experience.
