The Noramtec Group; consisting of: GSA Search Consultants, Mechanical Design Associates and Noramtec Consultants Inc. has been successfully recruiting in the Engineering, Manufacturing and IT Industries since 1964. We have the networks, industry experience and the connections it takes to offer a wealth of career opportunities and resources in any industry, across Canada and the US.

Our client is presently recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer to join their team in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Job Description

The major portion of the Structural Engineer's time is spent on the design and analysis of structures, buildings and foundations. The work varies from the relatively simple foundation to the very complex structure of a highly indeterminate nature. Dynamic considerations are frequently involved in dealing with vibratory equipment loads and earthquake forces. Specialized structural software is often used for design and analysis as well as using specific applications of common software such as Excel, MathCAD etc. The Structural Engineer's responsibility encompasses all the civil and structural engineering aspects of any project. The engineer is involved in the total project early in career development; from preliminary site feasibility studies and basic design criteria through the actual design of foundations, structures and buildings and coordination with field crew during construction to the point of assuring that the material is delivered to and successfully installed at the job site.

Acting as a senior structural engineer, the responsibilities may include supervision and guidance of a group of engineers and designers and the assumption of complete structural responsibility for a part of a project or specific structure(s). Additionally, the senior structural engineer will be expected to prepare construction specifications, design criteria, develop structural concepts and maintain efficient interdisciplinary and client communication. Successful candidates will have proven work experience in structural steel and concrete analysis and design on mining/heavy industrial projects, use of current Canadian Building Codes and Standards and use of common structural engineering software. (RISA3D preferred)

Job Requirements:

Candidates will have minimum of 10 years experience (7 years experience in heavy industry, preferably in oil and gas), performing detail engineering tasks or part of commissioning/start up teams. Candidate will be capable of registering as a P.Eng in New Brunswick, Canada. Experience will include analysis and design of reinforced concrete and structural steel industrial structures, construction methods, administration and directing an engineering team and application of Canadian Building Design Codes and Standards.

Effective communication skills and interaction with other disciplines, field construction team, supporting consultants (geotechnical) and clients are essential. Good command of the English language is required.  Experience with using structural software such as RISA-3D or similar.
