Position: Director of Gaming Solutions Architecture

Overall Objective and Purpose

The Director of Gaming Solutions Architecture will lead a team of architects to develop the product architecture for GTECH's Gaming Solutions business. GTECH provides complete gaming systems technology to government-sponsored programs as well as commercial and Native American gaming venues. The person will be responsible for leading the architecture of end-to-end solutions provide by GTECH for the global gaming industry. The position will report to the Sr. Director of Enterprise Architecture.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Play a technology leadership role in the definition and execution of architecture strategy for distributed and Casino gaming markets served by GTECH.
  2. Define the application architecture roadmap; seek approval of the roadmap by stakeholders; and ensure the value is obtained incrementally as the roadmap is executed.
  3. Lead a diversified team of architects in the development of application architecture and components.
  4. Lead a team that provides support and mentoring to application development teams using the established architecture best practices.
  5. Coordinate development teams with both onshore and offshore participants.
  6. Function as an enterprise architect on key critical initiatives.
  7. Influence in the definition of software architecture.
  8. Assist in the definition and governance of technology strategy as it relates to alignment to the business, evaluation of technology trends, enterprise architecture models, enterprise architecture guiding principles, standards, and technology stacks.
  9. Conduct architecture reviews for critical initiatives.
  10. Defines assignments for architects; analyzes assignments into specific tasks for his/her respective staff. Plans and tracks progress.
  11. Plans typically cover one to thirty six months into the future. Communicates progress via regular written and verbal communications. Serves as primary contact for Development organization and Product Marketing.
  12. Leads and motivates staff. Responsible for adherence to corporate departmental policies, procedures and standards (including architecture, design and coding standards).
  13. Develops and manages specific budget(s) for area of responsibility. Responsible for all team expenditures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent job experience). Master's degree is highly desirable.
  • 12 years technical experience with at least 5 years in a technology management or project leadership role.
  • A proven experience in the role of a lead architect

Industry Experience & Domain Knowledge

  1. Experience with developing products for the gaming industry with sufficient understanding of jurisdictional requirements in the global market
  2. Knowledge and understanding of
         a. Gaming platforms and application architectures
         b. VLT and gaming systems architecture
         c. Game management systems, retailer and CRM
         d. Player tracking systems and analytics
         e. Responsible gaming standards
         f. Multi-player and progressive gaming systems
         g. Data warehouse systems and gaming data analytics
  3. An understanding of gaming products (such as Casino, VLT Management systems, tables, and slot games) is highly desirable.
  4. Understanding of the Gaming industry standards (GSA) and protocols (G2S, SAS, DXS) is highly desirable.
  5. Distributed network infrastructure, network visualization, proactive network monitoring and fault management is highly desirable.

Technical Skills & Expertise

  1. A proven track record in defining roadmaps and direction setting for product development organizations
  2. The ability to design and develop abstract, reusable, and high performance components
  3. A broad knowledge of various technology stacks, application, data, infrastructure, and business architecture
    • Gaming machine platforms and application technologies (especially graphics, sound, peripherals, communications, etc)
    • Platforms (transaction processing systems and supporting solutions) and technologies (real time transaction processing systems, object oriented programming languages, distributed computing)
    • Experience in open source framework or developing frameworks for web-based application required (such as message brokers / bus, web services, portals, etc)
  4. Experience in Unified Modeling Language (UML), XML, XSLT, XML Schema
  5. Experience in all aspects of software development life cycle using the RUP & Agile methodologies

  1. Strategic thinker: Has the ability to think about technology and systems from a strategic perspective, can identify and trace business drivers down to reference models.
  2. Stays current: Keeps up with trends in technology, able to keep the organization informed on where it is headed
  3. Collaborative: Has good collaboration skills, capable of engaging other architects into the creation of the reference architecture models, ability to work with geographically diverse teams
  4. Detail oriented: Stays on top of details. Has updated knowledge of where the team is at all times
  5. Communication skills: Good at communicating with less technical project core team as well as with architects from various disciplines
