The IWK Health Centre has an exciting new opportunity for a Polysomnographic Technologist as we embark on developing a brand-new sleep studies program at the Health Centre. Polysomnographic Technologist
Regular Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
Respiratory Team, Children’s Ambulatory Medical Care
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Children’s Ambulatory Medical Care, the Polysomnographic Technologist is responsible to perform polysomnographic sleep studies in children experiencing sleep disorders. S/he provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under medical supervision, including performing overnight polysomnograms as well as responding with appropriate interventions upon recognition of sleep pathology. The Polysomnographic Technologist functions as a member of the multidisciplinary Respiratory Team in meeting the needs of this patient population. During the first few years of our program development, the IWK will be working in partnership with members of the well-established, Adult Sleep Disorders Program at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, and the IWK Polysomnographic Technologist will work approximately half-time with the QEII’s staff and the adult population served by their program.
Hours of Work: Rotating 11.25 and 7.5 hours/shift, including nights/weekends.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Health Sciences Degree in a related health care field required.
- Current registration with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) obtaining the designation of RPSGT, required.
- Current BCLS required.
- Current PALS preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a sleep studies setting required; previous experience with a pediatric population preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in polysomnographic testing techniques.
- Demonstrated competence in the analysis of pediatric PSTs and in providing appropriate interventions (e.g. CPAP, O2, ventilatory assistance devices).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently yet within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and time-management skills.
- Proven problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in a variety of computer software programs (e.g. MS Word, database management, email).
- Demonstrated commitment to on-going professional development.
- Competencies in other languages an asset. French preferred.
Salary: $23.3686 - $28.4524/Hour
