Position:  Staff Nurse, Regular PT

Position Summary:  Reporting to the Manager, Clinic Services, or designate, the incumbent performs assigned duties to assist in the collection of blood and blood products.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs confidential donor health assessment and provides donor with information, instruction and advice on blood donation;
  • Ensures collection equipment and supplies are adequate and in good working order;
  • Performs venepuncture and operates collection device, including apheresis equipment;
  • Ensures the safety and comfort of donor/patient during and following collection;
  • Guides and assists clinic staff and volunteers performing donor and product related activities;
  • Ensures that all required documentation is carried out;
  • Performs other duties as assigned; and
  • Ability to travel throughout Nova Scotia and PEI.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must be registered with, or eligible for registration in the province of Nova Scotia, with a minimum of two years related experience preferred. The incumbent must be organized, have demonstrated leadership skills and efficient work habits. Manual dexterity is a requirement of this position, as is the ability to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing. Previous venepuncture and apheresis experience would be an asset.   Computer literacy and C.P.R training is an asset. Must be capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
