The Hotel Accountant is responsible for all financial aspects of several hotels. Specific duties include preparation of the monthly financial statements, maintenance of the hotel's general ledger and to be a business partner to the Hotel General Manager (Hotel GM).

Basic Responsibilities:

Responsible for accounting hotels across Canada. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • The preparation of monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cash flow), in accordance with established standards.
  • Preparation, in consultation with the Hotel GM, of the monthly variance report for each hotel.
  • Financial analysis provided to the Hotel General Manager and Senior Company Management as requested on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Assist the General Manager with the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts.
  • Preparing Bank reconciliations and performing accounts payable functions
  • Maintaining the General Ledger
  • Conducting Month end reviews with the Hotel General Manager and liaising with the Management, Owners and Head Office staff regarding accounting related issues.
  • Provide the Hotel GM with a regular listing of current accounts payable and accruals to ensure all purchase orders are in payable system.
  • Ensure invoices are paid according to established standards.
  • Ensure all provincial and federal taxes are remitted and reports filed on time.
  • Complete working paper file in accordance with established standards to support balance sheet and income statement accounts for month end review by accounting supervisor or corporate controller.
  • Preparation of year end review file in accordance with established standards.

Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year full cycle accounting experience
  • University degree, major in accounting or finance considered an asset
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft word., knowledge of ACCPAC considered an asset
  • Exceptional analytical ability, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of integrity and ethics
