Supply Technician

Overview

You will ensure all of the supplies and services necessary for Canadian Forces operations are available when and where they are required.

What They Do 

Supply Technicians (SUP Techs) are responsible for the availability and delivery of all supplies such as food, fuel, heavy machinery, spare parts, stationery and clothing. Tasks include purchasing, warehousing, shipping, and receiving supplies, plus stock control and disposal of obsolete stock and equipment.

Qualification Requirements

SUP Techs must have initiative, good organizational skills and be independent.. Average or better physical strength and stamina are beneficial. Accuracy, attention to detail, adaptability and an interest in performing a variety of tasks are essential attributes. Clerical skills and an interest in computer operations and systems are also an advantage.

Training

The first stage of training for all new recruits is the four-month Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

Upon successful completion of the BMQ, SUP Techs attend Basic Military Occupational Training at the Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics in Borden, Ontario, for approximately two months. Training covers inventory control, stocktaking and accounting procedures, requesting, receiving, issuing and warehousing items, and handling and accounting for petroleum, oils, lubricants and rations. SUP Techs will also learn how to account for ammunition, how to procure material and services, and how to process them for repair and disposal. Training will also touch on financial management procedures, budget management, supply operations, materiel identification, preparation of requisitions, and more.

Working Environment

SUP Techs work in all types of environments and weather conditions in all parts of the world. Duties are performed in enclosed and exposed positions as well as confined spaces. Appropriate environmental clothing and equipment are provided. Support for the health, safety and morale of SUP Techs is emphasized and readily available.
