What They Do 

Resource Management Support (RMS) Clerks provide administrative and finance support to all military activities. As one of the largest career fields in the military, it offers a wide scope of employment opportunities.

Qualification Requirements

A high school or college diploma is essential. Applicants must be responsible, tactful, discreet, mentally alert, and possess a good memory. RMS Clerks must be organized, capable of performing repetitive tasks and willing to work extra hours. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. An attention to detail, reliability, honesty, and flexibility are necessary attributes. Critical thinking skills are also important.

Training

The first stage of training for all new recruits is the four-month Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

On completion of BMQ, RMS Clerks attend training specific to their field at the Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics (CFSAL) in Borden, Ontario, for approximately three months.

Training covers the fundamentals of a central registry, military writing, Financial Management Accounting Systems, pay system, basic accounting, personnel records and management, claims processing, and release processing.  Training also covers familiarization with military publications, administration, operation of automated personnel systems, keyboard skills and computer fundamentals.

Working Environment

RMS Clerks encounter a wide variety of working and environmental conditions. When employed with army field units, they will experience the same living and working conditions as other deployed members. RMS Clerks on ships must stand duty watches and participate in damage control, ship cleaning and maintenance duties in addition to their primary tasks. Appropriate training, environmental clothing and equipment are provided. Support for the health, safety and morale of RMS Clerks are emphasized and readily available.
