Finance Manager
(Full Time Position)
The Long Lake Project is a unique joint venture of two companies with a shared vision for oil sands development - OPTI Canada Inc. and Nexen. Each company brings a distinct skill set, background experience and perspective to the project. Together we make an innovative and exciting team, collaborating on a truly new type of oil sands development.
The Long Lake project is located approximately 40 km southeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The lease is estimated to hold approximately six billion barrels of bitumen. OPTI and Nexen have a 50/50 joint ownership of the lease and plan to produce 70,000 bbl/d of bitumen using steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and upgrade it to approximately 60,000 bbl/d of high quality synthetic crude oil using the patented OrCrude (TM) process, combined with conventional hydrocracking and gasification technologies.
This position will be reporting in to the Vice President of Operations, OPTI Canada Inc. and will be based in Fort McMurray, Alberta. As a grassroots operation with a new organization in place this position offers an exciting challenge for the right individual in dealing with both the project capital costs for plant operations and the transition to operating budgets.
Relocation to Fort McMurray is required for this position.
OPTI Canada Inc. will provide Relocation Assistance and Mortgage Subsidy for you and your family.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Member of the Operations Management Team guiding overall Upgrader operations activities
- Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals and coordinate activities with the Corporate Finance Team in Calgary
- Provide advice and analysis on financial matters for business planning and continuity
- Foster knowledge-based decision making with easily-accessible and understood plant production and financial information
- Ensure all financial controls, accounting processes and information processes for OPTI Operations are in place
- Manage all project operations cost accounting, accounts payable, and production accounting requirements: volumes, yields, quality etc.
- Provide training and assistance to all SAP users to ensure effective transactional linkages exist in SAP between the Maintenance, Materials Management and other SAP modules that impact financial modules
- Direct the annual budget planning process for plant Operations to meet overall corporate timelines
- Development and improvement of accounting administration policies and procedures for OPTI Operations
- Documenting and communicating processes and procedures to effectively link with the OPTI Corporate Finance Team
- Act as the primary liaison with local taxation authorities in the Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and coordinate with the OPTI Corporate Financial Team on other taxation matters

Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have a post secondary degree in business, and a professional Accounting designation, with 8 - 10 years of directly related experience.
- Previous work history that includes experience in a refinery, Upgrader, or chemical plant environment is preferred.
