Production Superintendent TMP (Pulp and Paper)

Of its 11 mills, Its Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia mill houses some of the highest levels of papermaking technologies in the world.

Today we are searching for a TMP Production Superintendent to join this state of the art facility.   Reporting to the TMP Manager, you will direct and coordinate TMP production operations including L1, L2, and L3 refiner lines, bleaching, heat recovery and clay and Kraft furnish supply.  In addition, you will carry out responsibilities in a manner which will ensure maximum production of pulp, meeting all quality requirements in the most efficient, economical, and safest manner.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop goals and implementation strategies for productivity, quality, efficiency, cost control, and safety improvements for the TMP plant.
  • Monitor operations daily to ensure production and quality goals are met.
  • Maintain communication and coordination with the PM1 and PM2 teams.
  • Produce and certify a product of the highest acceptable quality meeting all standards while minimizing energy consumption.
  • Follow up on complaints and quality concerns and direct corrective action.
  • Manage power costs.
  • Ensure optimum equipment maintenance.
  • Control department costs within established standards.
  • Participate in customer visits and quality follow-up.
  • Participate with suppliers and consultants on process and technology improvements.
  • Develop and manage capital and maintenance improvement projects.
  • Supervision of the operating supervisors, production leader, and team leader.
  • Promote programs which will ensure the safety and health of all personnel.
  • Maintain harmonious relations with employees.

Position Requirements:

  • At least 10 years pulp and/or paper production experience with five years in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or degree in Paper Science.
  • Have the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Possess effective communication skills.
  • Make decisions in emergency situations.
  • Have the ability to develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, NewPage mills, and other paper mills.
  • Have advanced problem-solving, planning and organizational skills.
  • Work beyond normal work schedule as necessary to fulfill the position responsibilities.
