Route Manager
Location: Halifax Regional Municipality

Waste Management of Canada is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management services, offering advanced residential, commercial and industrial collection, recycling and disposal services throughout Canada.

Due to our continued growth and expansion we anticipate a future need for a Route Manager at our Halifax Site.

Primary Function:
This position is responsible for planning, orga nizing, directing and controlling the activities of the Site’s day-to-day operations, consistent with the local business plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Transportation and WCB/WSIB legislation, regulations, and internal procedures
  • Provide strong leadership and support to the achievement of ‘Service Machine’ objectives
  • Meet all targets consistent with achieving M2Z Safety goals for the site and a strong involvement in all aspects of the site’s daily safety
  • Maintain a high standard of service to the region/area
  • Ensure all productivity targets are met on a consistent basis
  • Provide effective leadership and coaching to employees
  • Ensure all daily paperwork is completed to WM standards.
  • Daily Observational Assessments of Drivers and Helpers, follow-up and re-training as necessary.
  • Weekly safety meetings and safety tailgate discussions and all documentation.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Completion of Secondary diploma or the equivalent combination of education & experience
  • Two (2) years transportation operations experience, preferably within the waste industry
  • Experience in a supervisory role or a demonstrated ability to supervise and direct employees within a unionized environment
  • Strong problem solving skills and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing health & safety responsibilities and involvement with JHSC’s
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Driver’s License to meet the district operating requirements (class 3)
