This is a 2-year position being offered through the Post Secondary Internship Program. The position has been created to assist recent graduates in gaining career-related experience. To be eligible, candidates must have graduated within the past 18 months from a university, a community college, or a recognised trade school. Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of the Geological Mapping, Environmental Geology and Hydrogeology Section, and under the supervision of the Department's Senior Hydrogeologist, the successful candidate will be responsible for collection and integration of Provincial groundwater information, and the design and development of a centralized spatial groundwater database. The database will include well log, pumping test, water quality, and groundwater use information. This work will be used to support the development of a comprehensive water resource management strategy, one of the key targets recently set out in the Nova Scotia Environmental Goals and Sustainability Act, and will help decision makers effectively manage and protect the Province's aquifers. The database will be published on the web for use by a variety of clients, including government, academia and the private sector. In addition, the successful candidate will provide assistance with various planned hydrogeological field activities, such as test drilling and pumping test supervision, and groundwater level and quality surveys.
Qualifications:
B.Sc. in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geology or Diploma specializing in water resource studies, or similar field of study from an accredited college or university. The successful candidate will have training in water quality sampling, and water resource evaluation and management. Ability to work independently, and effective communication, organizational, research and analytical skills. Sound knowledge and competency in computer software applications including relational databases, spreadsheets, word processing, imaging and graphics. Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Access and GIS an asset. Must have a valid Driver's License.
Classification Range: PR 4
Salary Range: $35,811.59/Year
