These are bargaining unit positions restricted to current civil service employees represented by Nova Scotia Government Employees Union. Duties:

The Caseworker, Income Assistance, is responsible for planning and maintaining a caseload in the determination of both initial and ongoing eligibility for income assistance.  This involves home visits to interview applicants/clients to assess their financial and social situation; completion of necessary forms; determination of initial employability; communicating the outcome to applicants; referrals to other programs and services.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Social Sciences) or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience.  Preference will be given to candidates with related experience.  Understanding of budgetary concepts is essential.  Excellent interviewing skills, supplemented by a mature perspective and sound judgement.  Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.  Must possess good organizational skills.  Candidates must be able to travel in responding to various work site locations.

Offer of employment is contingent upon the successful candidate passing appropriate background checks

Classification Range: PR 4 - 11

Salary Range: $35,811 - $57,886
