The Parenting Journey is a community-based family support program designed to promote the optimal growth and development of children and youth through purposeful, goal-based home visitation.
The Family Support Home Visitor will provide support to families and their children age 3 to 16 years in the following areas:
- child/youth growth and development
- parent-child relationships
- parenting knowledge and skills
- family life management
- community connections and referrals
Specific Duties Include
- Conducting home visits throughout Inverness and Richmond counties
- Conducting family assessments and develop goals
- Develop Individual Family Service Plans
- Make referrals
- Document and maintain complete and accurate records
- Participate in debriefing, case conferences and professional development
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in social sciences (Early Childhood Education, Psychology, etc.) or combination of education and relevant experience
- Experience in working with children and/or youth and families in a community-based setting
- Knowledge of child/youth development
- Understanding of child/youth outcomes in the context of family and community
- Knowledge and understanding of positive parenting and parent-child relationships
- Understanding of family/community dynamics
- Knowledge and understanding of child abuse and neglect
- Knowledge and understanding of family violence and its impact on children/youth
- Knowledge and experience in using screening/assessment tools
- Knowledge of child/youth/family/community resources, programs and services
